What is Supplemental Security Income?

Supplemental Security Income is a monthly stipend administered by the Social Security Administration.

This Supplemental Social Security is typically designed to help elderly, blind, and disabled people. It comes from general tax revenue, not Social Security taxes, and is paid by the United States Government. SSI eligibility varies around specific income and asset levels.

In order to qualify for Supplemental Social Security, you have to have a certain level of needs and can’t have a certain level of assets. The current the minimum level of income is $2,000 per person or $3,000 per couple. If you have less than this, then you can qualify, but if you have more, then you cannot.
