Are you in need of a head injury lawyer? A head injury is caused by car and motorcycle accidents, among other unfortunate events. The brain swells from the jolt to the head, and tissues can bleed and tear. These causes can result in various types of head injuries listed below:

Concussion – When sustaining this injury, you may temporarily lose consciousness, feel dizziness, and have loss of   balance and even vision.

Brain Contusion – The brain is bruised, causing it to bleed or swell.

Skull Fracture – From the accident, the skull is cracked. Thus the cracked edges and broken skull bones cause the brain to bleed

Hematoma – This is bleeding of the brain, building blood clots. This type of head injury may not be noticeable for a day or even weeks so it is important you or others watching you are aware of symptoms. Symptoms of Hematoma are headaches, listlessness, balance problems and vomiting.

When in an automobile accident, it is strongly suggested you consult your doctor for examination. Your doctor will consider past medical history, while asking how the incident occurred.

Your medical provider will watch you closely; also they capture images of the brain through computerized tomography (CT) or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. These tests photograph the brain for more damages, if any. You will be watched closely and asked simple questions, such as, "What's you name?" and "Where are you?" to make sure you do not have a serious head injury.

Here is a list of reactions and symptoms to a traumatic car accident head injury you and your doctor should look for:

  • Vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Dilated pupils
  • Fluids coming from ears and nose
  • Weakness/numbness in arms and legs
  • Trouble concentrating and remembering
  • Unclear thoughts
  • Inability to multi-task

These reactions and symptoms may last for weeks, or longer.
Permanent damage is unlikely, but some memory loss may occur.
Events before, during and after the accident may be forgotten.
Soon after recovery, the memory becomes stronger.

Recovery and treatment can be at home for those minor head injuries, if someone is available to help you. Bed rest, fluids, and aspirin are home solutions. Also, ice wrapped in cloth, or frozen vegetables can be applied to the bruised area every 20 minutes to lessen the internal bleeding. Treatments vary upon the severity of the injury.

A more severe car accident head injury should be observed and treated by a doctor. After the accident, there may be pressure to the head. An intracranial pressure monitor can determine if surgery is needed to lessen the pressure.
Seizures also occur from severe head injuries. Doctors usually prescribe medication to prevent or treat seizures.  Antibiotics help prevent infection, and a breathing tube may be required to prevent further damage.

The penetrating head injury has its own damages too. They usually require surgery to remove the foreign object or to stop the internal bleeding caused. Types of treatments are similar to those closed head injuries, using the intracranial pressure monitor, medication for seizures, antibiotics to prevent infection, and a breathing tube to prevent more damage. In both head injury types, angiographies, another technique to explore the brain, may be performed as well.

Most importantly during this time, make sure there is someone always watching over you. Home remedies that include even diet can make a difference. See a doctor or specialist when necessary. Because head injury or not, pay attention to yourself and your surroundings. It could save your life.
